A Close Encounter with Elephant Seals

Join us on a journey to Punta Ninfas, a stunning location in the Province of Chubut, Patagonia, Argentina. This destination, situated just 90 km southwest of Puerto Madryn, is famous for its colony of elephant seals, which you can observe at an astonishingly close distance.

Our tour to Punta Ninfas begins with a one-and-a-half-hour drive from your accommodation. Upon arrival, you’ll have the opportunity to descend a cliff to Punta Ninfas Beach, also known as the mouth of the gulf. Here, you can see the elephant seals at a very close range. On rare occasions, we’ve even been lucky enough to see orcas.

After spending approximately an hour at the site, we embark on the return journey to the passengers’ accommodations.

Punta Ninfas is known for its lighthouse and high cliffs. In addition to the elephant seals, it’s also possible to spot a variety of seabirds. The breeding season for elephant seals occurs from September to December, and their molting season takes place from January to April. Therefore, these are the best times to visit if you want to see these impressive animals in their natural habitat.

For this excursion, we recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and footwear, as you will have to descend a cliff to reach the beach. It’s also advisable to bring a camera to capture the incredible wildlife and stunning landscapes.
